Venous Reflux and the progression to Varicose Veins and Chronic Venous insufficiency (CVI)

Venous reflux is a progressive medical condition. What begins as venous reflux, progresses over time into a more serious medical condition called Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI). The increased pressure inside the veins secondary to pooling of the blood in the legs, leads to various signs and symptoms. These include,

  • Varicose veins
  • Leg or ankle swelling
  • Leg heaviness and fatigue
  • Burning or itching of the skin
  • Restless legs
  • Skin changes/ pigmentation
  • Skin ulceration (ulcers/ sores/ open wounds)
